KuroKuroShiro, meaning black-black-white in Japanese, offers a space where viewers can immerse themselves in their own psychological and spiritual world. Painted with Sumi - an ink traditionally used in East Asia made of soot and animal glue - offers a wide range of tones and depths in black. With the subtle shifts of blacks, the spiritual and imaginative worlds emerge. The artist hopes viewers can walk away with visual and mental frames for their spiritual world to linger, f...orm, and exist. Nishiki Sugawara-Beda is a Japanese-American artist with a BA from Portland State University and an MFA from Indiana University. To speak to the core of humanity, she seeks connections among cultures both from the past and present and builds artistic foundation from her native and adapted cultural heritages. Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
