Challenge: Can you name the people in this photo? The Celebration of Dr. Ford's 150th birthday is in January, and a plaque is being created of all these Ford babies and former patients. I believe I have all the names confirmed but just want to make sure, so not to inadvertently leave anyone out!
The paint has been removed and now work is being done to replace and resurface the original bricks. Want to help with the renovations? Purchase a replacement brick for $25. Call the museum for more information.
Today for #givingtuesday please consider making a donation to our organization. The museum has remained closed since March and all donations will help the loss of 2020 admission revenue. Donations can be made through our website. We appreciate your support.
Need your help!! January 22, 2021 marks the 150th Birthday of Dr Justina Ford? Colorado's first licensed Black female physician. So in preparation for a tribute, I'm trying to track down people who either have photos, documents, stories etc that can be part of a live streamed celebration.... So far in my research I have identified; Harriet Butcher, Isetta Crawford Rawls, Jack Carter Bradley, Sondra LS Dunaan, Elmer D Haynes, Agness Cordillo Wallace, Ruth Bradford, Ingrid T Maysa , Bernard Gipson, John Mosley, The Royal Sunshiners Club of Dr Justina Ford. Can anyone help me find contacts for these people?
Exciting news in the neighborhood!
The Black American West Museum & Heritage Center (BAWM) restoration project is well on its way for the masonry and window restoration paid for in part by the ...State Historical Fund, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and BAWM. Historic Denver is excited to continue our partnership with the BAWM to help with project management, and see this great project complete. The project team met Friday to check on the paint stripping process, determine the correct mortar to use for repointing the brick, as well as look at a window mock up. #historicdenver #ThisIsPreservation #savingplaces : Shannon Noelle Schaefer Stage See more

Check out this BBC article, there’s a photo of Colorado’s very own homgrown cowboy Maurice Wade.
It is safe to say that these are historic and challenging times. Across our region and throughout the world people are grieving the loss of Elijah McClain, Rays...hard Brooks, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and so many other African Americans and people of color that have been harmed by the abuses of power in our society. Though City of Greeley Museums’ sites are closed, we are continually working to create a more welcoming space for all, to share a more inclusive narrative, and to document and preserve the rich and diverse history of our community. One way Greeley Museums is working towards these goals is by continuing its participation in the Dearfield Dream Project. Museums Manager Sarah Saxe joined Emeritus Professor Bob Brunswig, Professor George Junne, and students Yessica Berumen and Edwardo Maya, all from University of Northern Colorado, UNC, in their archaeology field program at the early 20th century African-American town-site of Dearfield, Colorado, 24 miles east of Greeley. Current Colorado State Historical Fund-supported fieldwork focuses on the former residence and workplace of Dearfield’s blacksmith and mechanic, Squire Brockman, who lived there from 1919 through 1953. This summer’s fieldwork is just one aspect of the Dearfield Dream Project, a collaboration between UNC, Black American West Museum & Heritage Center, City of Greeley Government, Colorado State University, and others to preserve the Dearfield town-site and to increase knowledge of Dearfield’s contribution to African-American efforts for economic self-sufficiency and social justice. Greeley Museums will store artifacts uncovered during this summer’s field program and plans are in progress for an upcoming exhibition.
