We are lucky at the Boldman House Museum to have such an extensive collection of clothing and photographs. And when we're really lucky, sometimes those collections overlap. We have this photograph of Gladys Boldman sitting in front of the family Christmas tree, probably on one of her visits home from working in Olympia or Boise, circa 1935-1945. She's wearing a sweet little dress, presumably handmade by her mother for Christmas. In the other picture, we have the dress itself. You can see its dark yellow and brown flowers on a yellow background. Its flutter sleeves and a slightly dropped waist with midi-length flared skirt were very fashionable in the mid 1930s.

The Boldman House Museum is re-opening! Starting Wednesday, August 26, we will be open 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 11:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. To accommodate health concerns for both our guests and our employees, we will be managing visits a bit differently. We request that you call 509-382-2026 for an appointment. Due to tight quarters in our old building, only one social group will be admitted at a time, and masks are required. Once inside the building, you will be provided with a self-guided tour, and a docent will be available to answer any questions. We hope to see you soon!

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. The 19th amendment to the constitution was ratified on this day 100 years ago, guaranteeing women the right to vote. While this was a major, hard won victory for women in the United States, it wasn’t until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that all American women were allowed to exercise the right they were guaranteed under the 19th amendme...nt.
