Last October 31st members of The Old Brunswick Camp #512, Danny Edwards & Tracy Clary, pulled up a headstone at Olive Branch Methodist Church in Gasburg, VA. T...he stone, belonging to Pvt. William Lewis Taylor, contained some misinformation and a descendant desired to have it corrected. The corrected stone was reinstalled yesterday, March 26th, by members of The Old Brunswick Camp and descendants of Pvt. Taylor. The group picture below is of, from left to right, Old Brunswick members Cole Clary & Danny Edwards, family friend Mr. Lee Hart, 3rd Great Grandson Archer Taylor and his daddy, 2nd Great Grandson Fred Taylor from Suffolk, VA. Capt. Francis Emmett Buford, born 1836 in Brunswick county VA. Was appointed by the court in February 1861 to serve as special police to maintain law and order. In February 1862 he enlisted in the Confederate army and became Captain of Company E, 3rd Virginia Artillery. He was stricken with disease soon after and spent the remainder of the war as an enrolling officer for Brunswick county. After the war, he practiced law, served as Commonwealths Attorney, a county judge, and was editor and publisher of the Brunswick Gazette. The old veteran passed away on March 15, 1909 and was laid to rest in the old family cemetery at "Sherwood". (Approx one-half mile west of Lawrenceville on the north side of Hwy 58). Another brave citizen of Brunswick county who proudly wore the gray!!!
