What difference exists between the Mayan Cross and the one brought by the Spanish?
We are so grateful to our community members who want to make a difference! We give great thanks to Rotary Club of Corozal's Director of Community Services and Events, Mr. Craig Courtright. Craig has been working on the beautification of the House of Culture's gardens and walkways and any other project he sees fit since the beginning of the year! Thank you so very much! #rotaryclubofcorozal #corozalhouseofculture #volunteer
Mr. Pablo Mis of Laguna Village in Toledo, has been appointed as advisor to the General Secretary of United Nations Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples. Congratulations to Mr. Mis on this momentous appointment!
In past years, November is a busy time at the Darina Museum in Libertad Village. Curator and cultural leader Mrs. Simeona Zuniga enjoys educating visitors about the Garifuna culture. She sees a steady stream of classes throughout the month, this year is much different. The good news is that she is busy working with the Lisanigu Libertad Dance Group in presenting performances for the virtual celebration of this year's Garifuna Settlement Day!
One of Corozal Town's older wooden clapboard structures is seeing its final days, slowly being dismantled. The building is located on 5th Avenue beside Jo Mel In Restaurant. Can anyone share their knowledge of its history please?

As we near Garifuna Settlement Day 2020 we look back at previous November 19th events by the House of Culture. In former years, Garifuna Settlement Day was a day of rest here in Corozal Town. We took on the challenge of raising awareness and engaging our community through cultural cuisine sampling with delicious Garifuna food supported with recipes, drum and dance presentations, and eventually adding concerts by Larubeya Band. We will miss the in person festivities this year, but the virtual celebrations will be broadcasted through the National Garifuna Council's fb page! #garifunaculture #Nich #corozalhouseofculture #larubeyaband
