Second but very late flush on the roses that climb over the garden forks. Surprising, seeing as I’d removed 70% of the stems in August.

Mystery gadget from Archie Trickett’s workshop next door. Any ideas what it was used for anyone? I can’t work it out. It was dug out for examination by his daughter Sarah on a visit recently. We would love to know. . It looks handmade. Its legs aren’t fixed, but swing out and in. The arrow shaped blocks on the legs can be moved up and down as if to support pieces of wood maybe, but what the devil for? . Archie (1922-2011) was born in the cottage and became an inventive eng...ineer-builder at an early age, building his own wood chalet home in the north west corner of the cottage’s original garden for himself and his new bride Betty in 1956. . #gadgetshow #woodworkerproblems #mysterygadget #woodworkshop #meninsheds #eversculpturegarden See more

Work has carefully started this week to finish the second phase of hard landscaping. Here’s the areas just finished to the north and east faces, done after what seems like an age. The ground level has been lowered, land drains added, border walls built with stone sourced locally to match the stone used at the base of the cottage walls opposite, and drainage gravel mats used just under the finer gravel topping for stability when walking on too. . . . #eversculpturegarden #sculpturegarden #artgarden #cottagegarden #buildingconservation #gardendesign #hardlandscaping

Have been working developing the bed by the kitchen door this week. Thinking of mixing in sections of curved corrugated tin which will have pinks and grasses growing in between. There’s a path marked now through now too. Have to do a deep dig through the whole area to eradicate the bindweed next. . . .... #eversculpturegarden #sculpturegarden #artgarden #cottagegarden #gardendesign #landscapedesign #gardensofinstagram #corrugatedtin See more

Nice to bring recent work made at home along to see how they work in situ. These three are old cast glass lids encased in cast concrete, entitled ‘Lid-locked’. They were made as a response to the problematic, but still interesting use of concrete in the building over the years (eg. concrete render traps moisture behind and causes the chalk stone to disintegrate). The work having been made during lockdown, there is a second meaning imparted by the choice of name, hopefully f...or all our sake’s that will fade over time. Leaving them on this table here for now. . . . #installationartwork #sitespecificsculpture #socialhistory #builtheritage #sitespecificart #concretesculpture #vintageglasswares #castglasssculpture #lockdownart #lockdownsculpture #contemporarysculptures #artspace #heritageart #heritagespace #artheritagegallery #eversculpturegarden #iowculture #isleofwight See more

Working out how to fill the place with plants on a shoestring during lockdown. Growing from seed, buying plug plants on ebay and potting on bargain 5 for a tenner plants before lockdown began. Still some way to go though!

Looking back to last year’s open days when people could come see progress. The inside set up with info about the proposed change of use being applied for (now granted). Hoping to see people here again one day. . #installationspace #artspace #galleryspace #iowculture #builtheritage #socialheritage #eversculpturegarden @ Brighstone, Isle Of Wight, United Kingdom

A Pause or two more... [A couple of years back I spotted these strangely uniformly sea-worn soft sandstones on nearby Compton beach and duly collected. If left there, they could well be worn down to sand by now. They looked like dashes and to further that, I had in mind drilling an ellipsis (three full stops) into the surface of one or two, to indicate the pause I had created by extracting them from their natural geological habitat. An idea (much lower down) on my to do list... of late. Then... here we are... And I remember them and they take on more gravity and weight as a work to undertake at a time when the whole planet is on pause. I started one today in my home shed whilst the birds hyper-sang outside into the vast ultra-quiet. Each small circular incision feels both like a collaboration with the stone and a penance.] #paused #ellipsis #contemporarysculpture #contemporaryart #eversculpturegarden #sculpturestudio #stonesculpture #lockdownart #lockdownsculpture

This is where we got to before lockdown: paths still need finishing, beds planting, foundations for sculpture pouring. Obviously wont be opening any time soon! Working on the world’s most elaborate plant support framework for hollyhocks etc. Based on Meccano - prompted by a found ad in an old Picture Post under carpet in the cottage. ‘Engineering for Boys’ it said. I got hold of an old set and put together a few towers to get the hang of it, and now have sourced some slotted strut channel as the basic lengths. I will have to make and weld some of the fixings and shaped bracing panels myself. Then sort out powder coating, then install with foundations made in advance. Just about enough time to do this one I hope. #meccanoforgirls #internationalwomensday #stainlesssteelsculpture #sculpturegarden #eversculpturegarden Brighstone, Isle Of Wight, United Kingdom
