There is a seasonal feel to this painting found hidden away in our warehouse 'Steady as you go' by the famous Austrian painter Edmund Adler. Adler was born in Vienna on 15 October 1876 to Heinrich and Maria Adler. His father was an umbrella maker and he spent his early years in Vienna attending school there. He attended the Art School for Lithography from 1892 studying under Professor Franz Würbel and was also enrolled at the Graphic Teaching and Testing Institute in Vienn...a. He initially worked as a lithographer before going onto the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1896-1903 to study under the German portrait artist Christian Griepenkerl (1839-1916). Around 1903, Adler married Rosa Pankratz and after graduating was awarded a scholarship, which allowed him to travel to Rome to study for a year. After his return, he lived with his family in Vienna before settling in Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge in 1910. He served in the First World War but became a prisoner of war and was held by the Russians in Siberia. He kept himself occupied by drawing sketches and together with other artists held an exhibition in Vladivostok. Adler returned to Vienna in 1920 and began working on portraits, receiving commissions from art galleries for studies of children. His children and those of his neighbours were often models for his paintings. He signed some of these works with the pseudonym Edmund A. Rode. He spent the rest of his life in Mannersdorf where he died on 10 May 1965. Adler’s appealing subject matter has helped make his paintings as popular today as they were during his lifetime. Examples of his work can be found in many private and public collections including Lower Austria Museum as well as the Edmund Adler Gallery in Mannersdorf. The work is housed in its original gilt frame, which is in excellent condition. #edmundadler #adler #skating #iceskating #frozenlake #frozenpond #frozenriver #childsplay #children #austrian #CHRISTMAS #Christmaspresent

'Theresa' by Kay Boyce. Mixed media. Paper size: 14 x 12.25 inches Signed. Read more https://www.haynesfineart.com/artists/kay-boyce-uk... Kay Boyce was born in Sheffield. As a child she would often spend hours at a time drawing on rolls of wallpaper; this was the beginning of her passion for art. Kay studied illustration at Wrexham College before working as a freelance illustrator. She produced editorial work for Women s Weekly, Bella, My Weekly, Sunday Express and Woman s Own. Her illustration work has carried her through to major book publishers such as Hodder and Staughton, Wadsworth Romantics, Mills and Boon and Mandarin. Although Kay is proud of her achievement in commercial illustration her true vocation is as an artist. Kays career as an artist has flourished; her pastel and pencil drawings have become instantly recognisable, and her work has graced private collections for many years, and she is now firmly established as a leading figurative artist. Her delicate use of pastels and love of antique clothes and fabrics lend a soft feminine quality to her work which appeals to men and women alike. Having trained in Ballet and contemporary dance (and now Salsa), it is this that has given her an insight into her subject and an aptitude for reproducing it. Kay Boyce illustration work has carried her through to major book publishers such as Hodder & Staughton, Wordsworth Romantics, Mills & Boon and Mandarin. During this period, she also produced fine art paintings and drawings that have been exhibited at various galleries and exhibitions around the UK including, The AOI Gallery and Barbican Centre, London, The Science & Industry Museum, Manchester, Gateway and Bearsteps, Shrewsbury as well as Ludlow, Knutsford and Chester. Her paintings have been sold throughout the USA and Europe. Kay completed a project for RADA which included portraits of 23 famous actors and actresses with the final work being assessed and approved by Sir Richard Attenborough. #KayBoyce #ContemporaryArt #model #femalemodel #fabric #dress
