Girl Scouts Formed - 1909 Scouts started in South Australia in 1909. There was so much interest in this new "game" of Scouting, that by November 1909 girl scouts were also formed. Troops formed, 1st Adelaide, 1st Rose Park, Parkside, North Adelaide, Prospect, Alberton, Unley, Mitcham, and various other places.
Scouts Meet at Crystal Brook. - 1926 A combined Scout parade in charge of District Scoutmaster J. T. Read, , was held at Crystal Brook on Saturday afternoon. There was a good representation of the Crystal Brook, Port Pirie, and Solomontown troops. The chief features of the meeting were scouting games. An ambulance badge examination, conducted in the evening by Scoutmasters Jenner and . Turner resulted in successes to four Crystal Brook Scouts. At the conclusion a brief address was delivered by Scoutmaster Haskard, District Scoutmaster Read suitably responding.

Boy Scouts - Meeting at Norwood - 1909 A small but enthusiastic attendance of persons interested in the Boy Scout movement, in the Norwood Town Hall on Thursday night. Alderman Mattingly occupied the chair, and expressed his sympathy with the movement. Dr. Shepherd (commissioner) gave a & short outline of the history of the movement in South Australia.... The Rev. A. H. Teece. B.A., of Clavton Church, said the boy of to-day ought to be cared for better. Greater interest should be shown in the boy scout movement, which was doing admirable work in the interests of the rising generation. (Cheers.) At the instance of Dr. Shepherd a committee was formed to govern troops within the districts of Kensington and Norwood. Among those appointed were the Mayor of Norwood (Mr. G. H. Prosser). Aldermen Holden and Mattingly, Councillor Wood, Mr. F. Chapple, the Revs. A. H. Teece, and R. W. G. Dempster, and Colonel Dean. At the close of the meeting the Scouts present saluted and sang the National Anthem. See more
State Council Meeting - 1909 ON THIS DAY.............. A meeting of the State Council was held at the Town Hall on November 16, and the following new troops were registered and the appointment of scoutmasters approved: -1st Richmond, 1st Angaston, 1st Payneham, 1st Riverton, 1st Torrens, 1st Largs Bay, and 1st West Adelaide troops; also the curlew patrol at Strathalbyn and the hound patrol at Blackwood. Yorketown Scouts Formed - 1909 A meeting was held on Tuesday evening, November 9, to consider the formation of a patrol in connection with the above movement, at Yorketown. Mr Geo Martin president. The Chairman briefly addressed the meeting, and called on Mr E. J. Wyly, to explain the object, and give the formula in the working of patrols. Major Heaney also addressed the meeting. He was quite in favor, and thought that next to a cadet corps, it was about the best possible mov...ement for a district to take up. Mr Wyly stated that the cost would be small, the only requirements being a khaki shirt and hat, a hatchet and sheath-knife. The age limit was from 8 or 9 to 18 years. The Chairman suggested that the gentlemen present form a committee with power to add. It also requested Mr T. L. Moore to accept the position of scoutmaster and Mr E. J. Wyly as assistant scoutmaster. The officers elected were: PresidentMr. G Martin; vice-presidents.Major Heaney, Messrs R. T. MacFarlane A. K. Bartlett, and J. Stokes; i-secretary and treasurerMr. P. A. Degidan; committeeMessrs T. L. Moore, R. T. MacFarlane, E, J. Wyly. J. Stokes, A. E. Bartlett, W. Riddle, M. Erichsen. W. L. Burton, S. E. B. Young. S. Woods, J, G, Daymond, G Stockings, J. S. K. Maclennan, W. D. Goldsworthy, Revs E. W. Caust, R. Kenny and J. D. Murphy, and Major Heaney with power to add. It wan resolved that the secretary write the Eduction Department with reference to using the school for purposes of the patrol. Major Heaney stated that he would be pleased to show the boys anything in the way of bandaging wound etc. [The Troop first Met on Monday night 15th November 1909]
