Commemorating OXI Day. Hence, we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks. Winston Churchill

Our Lemnos1915 Anzac champion Tony Whitefield, has written a new book called Queen of Limnos, an interpretation of the Ancient Greek story of Queen Hypsipyle. Neo Kosmos ran an interesting story on his book. The article quotes the author: We have Homer and Hollywood to thank for the list of A-graders, but a closer inspection of Hypsipyle’s life leads me to conclude that between 2500 and 2000 years ago, she was an important mythological and literary character, worthy of the attention of major playwrights and authors for more information about where to get this book see the link below. Congratulations Tony.

Today is the Feast Day of Prophet Elias and on Lemnos there will be a pilgrimage by locals to one of the island's highest peaks to visit the chapel dedicated to the prophet. We also take time to remember Australian photographer and war correspondent, Philip Schuler, who spent alot of time on Lemnos in 1915. During his stay he took lots of photos of the island and left a great legacy. Here is a photo of Schuler taken near the peak of the Mt Prophet Elias in Lemnos. I have been fortunate to trek in Schuler's footsteps not so long ago, it is one of the best panoramas the island has to offer. Image: www.nationalanzaccentre.com.au

Homage to the matriarchal Amazon’s who were the unsung heroes during the Gallipoli campaign. Their nurturing and healing ways became the maternal love needed to heal our Anzac’s wounds. #lemnos1915 Arrival of first detachment of Sisters on Lemnos Island 1915. We honour our unsung heroes on the Year of the Nurse this Anzac Day weekend. The Nurses of the 3rd Australian General Hospital on Lemnos during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915. Lemnos is synonymous with amazons from Greek Mythology as well as the heroic efforts and courage of the ANZAC nurses, who as modern amazons during the Gallipoli campaign, managed the pain of the injured young ANZACs with limited means. On this extra-ordinary Anazac Day, Jeff Debnam of Hurlstone Park this morning brought his guitar to the neighbourhood war memorial and dedicated this song to all those who served. Thank you Jeff.

'They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Lest we forget.' #AnzacDay #Gallipoli #Lemnos1915 Photo by Kaily Koutsogiannis Photography
