The autumn leaves may be gone, but don’t put away your cameras, yet! Photographer Joseph Hartman was particularly drawn to Hamilton cityscapes in winter, when brightly coloured buildings and signs seem to pop against gray skies and streets. In 2016, the Hamilton-based artist and McMaster alumnus presented a solo show of his Hamilton photographs at McMaster. https://youtu.be/9AIdJdpwbjk

#FlashbackFriday In 2008, the Museum proudly presented Richard Fung: Landscapes . In the exhibition, newly commissioned video projections by Richard Fung, award-winning artist, cultural critic and OCADU faculty member, interplayed recent footage from Ontario sites with 19th century engravings and paintings by J.M.W. Turner from McMaster’s permanent collection. . Being of Chinese heritage in the Caribbean and now in Canada I am sensitive to issues of location. Spatial polit...ics are at the spine of my work, said Fung on his inspiration for the exhibit. In Landscapes, I use visual puns in the hope of 'making strange' the landscapes that we take for granted, pointing to the histories of their transformation. . In this still from of one of Fung’s projections, the cover image of the exhibition publication, we see prominent Hamilton landmarks integrated with Turner’s 'Arundel Castle, on the River Arun,' 1827 an engraving gifted to McMaster by Dr. M. Brain. . This project was generously supported by the Canada Council for the Arts - Media Arts Commissioning Program. . #landscape #RichardFung #videoprojections #artinstallation #Hamont #Turner #artcommission #artcollection See more
