On November 11th, as we honor all that have served in the armed forces, here's a great article about the history of Veterans Day from our friends at the History Channel.
Who remembers Tessie’s at 1060 Cozzens Lane? Tessie’s was a small grocery convenience store but primarily known to children throughout the 1960’s and 70’s as a tremendously popular local candy shop managed by proprietor Theresa Passalacqua. The small store featured a host of household basics including milk, bread, and cereal but was a haven for penny candy and other treats including waxed lips, Swedish fish, licorice, jawbreakers and candy necklaces. As pictured, a Pensupreme Ice Cream sign hung above the door promoting the popular dessert that originated from Penn Dairies in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
The Society wishes all our friends and fans a very happy and healthy 2016! Did you know that 2016 is a Leap Year? Why do we have to add this day once every four years? These additional 24 hours are built into the calendar to ensure that it stays in line with the Earth’s movement around the Sun.
