Educational displays. We need the next generation to love the natural world and care for it, perhaps a little more than we have done!

According to new research by the RSPB, only 1 in 5 children have a ‘connection to nature’. Time spent playing outdoors has halved in just one generation. SciNatEx Free displays are a way to introduce nature to children in the classroom. By presenting our beetle topic in bite sized chunks it is easier to engage the kids, and the hope is that they will want to spend more time outdoors and to learn a little more about nature.

This sperm whale tooth, engraved on both sides with pictures of a whaling ship in a stormy sea, is from the collection at Lynn Museum. This type of engraving is called scrimshaw - artwork typically created by whalers and engraved on the byproducts of whales, such as bones or cartilage.

Sometimes when we are on a field trip, we take a break from the wildlife. This amazingly colourful ladies festival in India provided an alternative photograph to the birds.

One of our stars. A fantastic Bamboo weevil. The biggest weevil of all weevils - ours is about 40mm long!. Our specimen is part of our Free loans display. We have "posed" it on some bamboo for the photo. It is included in a case we made which features beetle pests and beneficial beetles. Fascinating creatures.

Please help - Looking for a home for our beetle exhibition! For free. We have lots of fantastic local history and cultural museums and exhibits in our towns. But nowhere near enough science, conservation, and natural history.... We would like this exhibit that we have made to be made available to the public, (it is available for free loan, no charge). Whether on a longer or shorter term.... This is a fantastic set of four displays on the subject of beetles. The most amazing creatures. The more that people know about nature, the more likely we are to protect it. If anyone knows of any space where they may be housed, and made available for people to see, please let us know. We are in Northampton, so location and transport may need to be considered.
