We hope you're having an excellent #WellnessWednesday! The Girl with Red Hair wants to remind you to wear a face covering while you're out and about to #slowthespread and keep your germs to yourself! Who was The Girl with Red Hair? She was Marjorie Organ Henri, an Irish-American illustrator who worked as the only female artist on the staff of the New York Journal in 1905, when this portrait of her was painted by her future husband Robert Henri. She exhibited several drawings ...under her own name in the famous Armory Show of 1913. She passed away of cancer in 1930, cutting short her unusual career as a female cartoonist in the early 20th century. Marjorie lived in New York City during the 1918 influenza pandemic and likely styled her original face mask with a gauze veil, paired with a wide-brimmed straw hat, as was the fashion of the time. WE'VE REACHED 45% OF OUR GOAL! Thank you to everyone who has given so far! We've lost over $20,000 in estimated revenue this Spring 2020, compared to Spring 2019. That's a loss of over 85%! Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel 18 Museum events over the last 11 weeks. We were only able to reschedule 2 of them. Though almost all of SAM's events are free or low-cost, we estimate that these cancellations lost about $2,000 in revenue. We have $9,747.46 to go to reach our goal of $10 in 10 days! There are 9 days left to give. Donate now! >>> www.spartanburgartmuseum.org/donate
Our Goal: $10k in 10 Days! - https://mailchi.mp/spartanarts/fiscalyearend2020-1
Like many other businesses and nonprofits, Spartanburg Art Museum has suffered financially during this last quarter of our fiscal year. Our Museum was closed to the public and Art School classes were canceled and postponed for over eleven weeks, causing a huge loss of revenue for our daily operating expenses. The comparison between income from Spring 2019 vs. Spring 2020 is devastating: a loss of over 85%. We need your help! If every one of our social media followers donated ...just $5, we would exceed our goal of raising $10,000 in the last 10 days of June! By giving today, you're supporting Upstate SC's only contemporary art museum and one of Spartanburg's oldest nonprofits during these trying times. DONATE ONLINE: spartanburgartmuseum.org/donate
