Heartbreak. Another school shooting... and another Healing Mural. The Muramid Museum has responded to all the mass school shootings in our nations history starting with Sandy Hook in 2012. At first they were just rare events that we would never forget. But now as time goes on and Gun laws remain unchanged these shootings have become a frequent part of the news. Things need to change. 18 shootings in the United States as of February 14th, 2018. Even though this statistic is ...horrific, yes we will do yet another healing mural to send to the Florida High School. 17 Birds each for 17 Victims. Join us this week to "Paint for Parkland" and create murals that will be sent to Parkland, Florida and honor Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. CSUSM Human Development students taught by Dr. Eliza Bigham will host this project with support from Art Miles. Tues. 2/20 & Thurs. 2/22... 10am-1pm in the Kellogg Terrace (3rd Floor Library Entrance), CSUSM. Inspired by Jim Thompson’s ceramic collection and the museum garden, as well as Thompson’s mysterious disappearance while trekking in the Malaysian jungle in 1967, Dusadee conjures up images of Thompson wandering along what he terms the trail at the end of the world. His other source of inspiration for this show is the book The Mushroom at the End of the World; on the Possibility of Life in Capitalist Ruins by Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing, which studies the function and connection of a rare mushroom in sustaining life on a fragile planet. The questions the artist raises resonate with our reality in a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has turned the world upside down.
