The Broad 11.08.2020
With the closure of school buildings, some students now lack basic art supplies, such as pencils and scissors, that they normally would have received in their classrooms. We’re creating free The Broad To Go art kits so that kids can get much-needed art supplies, be creative, and experience #TheBroadFromHome. This week, in partnership with Touch Art Supply, 1,400 students are each receiving a Pop art-themed The Broad To Go art kit through our non-profit #ArtsEd partners, I...nner-City Arts, 826LA & the Time Travel Mart, Greetings from South L.A, and Arts in Action Community Charter Schools. Each art kit contains art supplies, a journal, free museum passes for when we reopen, and art cards in English and Spanish that offer art activities and questions to develop each student’s critical thinking skills. We’re already busy making another 1,400 art kits on mixed media and can’t wait to help more kids make art. ___ Special thanks to Leading Partner East West Bank. Photos by Touch Art Supply

Happy 25th birthday to our New Art in the Neighborhood (NAN) program! Earlier this month, we celebrated this major anniversary with a virtual reunion of some of NAN's current and alumni leaders and students including Roseann Weiss, Tuan Nguyen, and Lyndon Barrois Jr., with current Museum Educator José Garza. This free education program provides St. Louis-area high school students with more than fifty hours of studio time in one semester, immersing them in contemporary ...art and ideas in order to develop a greater critical awareness of their own art-making and art history. Since NAN's inception in 1995, the program has served more than 700 high school students and partnered with more than 100 local, national, and international artistsMel Chin, Amy Sherald, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Mickalene Thomas, and Sanford Biggers, among othersthrough workshops, studio visits, portfolio reviews, and lectures. With participants from St. Louis City, surrounding County public and private schools, and homeschoolers, NAN connects a diverse group of young artists who share ideas, collaborate on projects, and forge relationships that extend beyond the program’s duration. Students who complete NAN are eligible to receive college credit through Webster University and the Kansas City Art Institute. Click through to see a few great NAN memories throughout the years! _____ #NewArtintheNeighborhood #ArtsEd #camstl camstl.org/nan

Watch #new! short slow looking clips and learn more about our collection #artworks through listening to Purchase College, SUNY Conservatory of Theatre Arts students tell the stories. Slow looking allows you to take time with an artwork, even if it's virtual, it helps you see something you wouldn't with a quick glance, and aims to help you develop a personal connection with the work.
