Rauschenberg's artwork "Residence," 1997 features his own photo of firemen snapped from an upper floor of his Lafayette Street building. Around the corner from his New York home and studio, now the headquarters of the Rauschenberg Foundation, stands the proud firehouse of Engine Company 33 and Ladder Company 9, whose brave #firstresponders help keep #NewYorkCity safe. Fourteen of their #firefighters rushed to the World Trade Center on 9/11 and ten of them lost their lives tha...t day. With gratitude and respect, we salute our neighbors and remember their heroic sacrifice. An earlier image of their brothers occupies the center of this work, situated between one of Rauschenberg's Muse Wall in his Captiva, Florida studio above and a hotel room below, comprising a triptych view of "Residence" as #Rauschenberg conceived it: Captiva, New York, and anywhere in the world. 1. Beaches Museum 20.09.2020
On October 28, 1928 Atlantic Beach got it's first fire engine! It was an American LaFrance engine and was one of the city's first major purchases after incorporating in 1926. The emblem from the fire engine was generously donated to Beaches Museum by Mr. Jack Feather. This emblem is a small part of our beaches history. If you are ever going through your old things and wonder if Beaches Museum is interested please email us at [email protected] #atlanticbeach #beacheshistory #firefighters

On this night...19 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00 am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be th...e same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. Copied and shared Please do the same in remembrance of the fallen. #NeverForget #FirstResponders #NYC #Heroes #TwinTowers #Firefighters #Police #Dispatchers #NineEleven

Museum of Fire 31.10.2020
"Where there is smoke there is fire" Firefighters are required to work in environments that are filled with smoke, toxic gasses and a lack of oxygen. To survive in such conditions firefighters wear breathing apparatus to ensure their protection. The most visible by-product of fire is smoke and a toxic atmosphere, which is less visible is also a major concern for firefighters.... Great developments over the last 100 years mean that today’s breathing apparatus protects our firefighters from unknown respiratory hazards, elevated temperatures, depleted oxygen levels, toxic atmospheres and smoke. Breathing apparatus allows firefighters to work in conditions where it would be otherwise impossible to breath. This week's Museum blog focuses upon this development. To read the full story follow this link: https://www.museumoffire.net/blog-1 Linking in with this week's blog is the photo our team selected as our #FlashbackFriday for today. This photograph was taken at Headquarters Fire Station in 1905. As you can see from this photograph breathing apparatus has come a very long way over the last 100 years!
