Il Vescovado di Sutri attesta le antiche radici cristiane della città sin dai primi secoli del Medio Evo. Il palazzo vescovile risulta così essere il fulcro non soltanto religioso ma anche culturale ed artistico dell’intera città. Sede di numerosi porporati d’alto lignaggio, vanta addirittura un Papa, Pio V, promotore della riforma tridentina. Il suo splendore continuò sino ai primi anni del Novecento con la figura di quello che forse, fu il più importante suo rappresentante ...ecclesiastico: Padre Joseph Bernard #Doebbing. Nato in Germania nel 1855, nel 1900 fu eletto vescovo di Nepi e Sutri. Monsignor Doebbing, uomo di fede ma anche di rara e alta cultura ristrutturò il palazzo vescovile di #Sutri, promuovendo importanti opere sull’educazione dei giovani, del clero e del popolo tutto. Morirà a #Roma nel 1916 dopo breve malattia. Un padre della comunità che risorge dalla proprie radici spirituali e culturali.
